Using computer as a router windows 7

Development of this software has ceased, and therefore Virtual WiFi Router is obsolete , so future updates should not be expected. Virtual Router is a free and rather simple virtual router which installs quickly. Setup is simple and involves setting a password among other options and creates a wireless hotspot. Some users may require more complex options than what Virtual Router offers, but for those that simply require additional connectivity in a space, this program suffices.

The interface of this application is also simple, providing information about connected devices such as their names, MAC addresses and assigned IP addresses. The big start and stop button is all that is required to get your virtual hotspot up and running. If you use Windows 8, you can still create a Wi-Fi hotspot, but it takes a little more configuring.

You should now be able to join that Windows 8 network on your other device. Search and connect, as usual, entering the SSID and password when prompted. If you try the above steps to use your Windows 8 or Windows 10 laptop as a wireless router and it fails to work, there could be several reasons.

Here are the most common windows hotspot problems. A cable can look goods on the outside but be damaged on the inside, especially since the wires are fragile and thin, and the ends can come loose or wear out.

Close the Content Dock. When you check the box, the dropdown box under Home networking connection will become enabled. Here you want to select the wireless network connection for your wireless card. If you have more than one listed, it could be that one of them is a virtual adapter. Make sure to not choose that one. You can tell if there is a virtual adapter when you look at all the adapters after clicking Change adapter settings at the beginning of this article.

Click OK and close out of the Properties window. Now the LAN connection will be shared and we can move on to step 2. Now scroll down and click on Setup a wireless ad hoc computer-to-computer network.

Click next and then give your network a name. This name will be the SSID for the network that other users will see on their computers. For Security type , choose None and leave the Security key box blank.

Also, make sure to check the Save this network box. Click Close and move on to Step 3.
