This wouldn't be a problem cuz IE9 is now out, but I have not been able to install it. Apparently, Win7 sp1 needs to be installed and I'm holding off that for awhile till all the bugs get worked out. I'm running Win and have this same issue. I'm able to make it a little better by disabling Protected Mode, but it's still an issue. The inability to open tabs is also acompanied by IE becoming unresponsive when trying to move between different zones.

My next step will be to check if this is isolated to my profile or is system wide. I'll post back after that test. The solution for me was to stop using Synergy as a server on my Windows 7 box. Synergy is an application that allows me to share one keyboard nad mouse between multiple systems. I find it difficult to believe that the others in this thread were using synergy too, but for what it's worth, that was the fix for me. Uncheck Internet Explorer 8, click OK and reboot.

You will be not have Internet Explorer installed then. Go to Windows features again and check Internet Explorer 8, reboot. Now you will have Internet Explorer installed again. When I went to Turn Windows features on or off, Internet Explorer 8 wasn't listed 9 was there instead. So if this happens where do I go from this point to get IE8 re-installed? There is not a fix.

As the title asks, How can I reinstall IE 8 for windows 7? I am having the issue where "Open in new tab" or "open in new window" does not work Anyone know of a fix for it?

Thanx Update NOTE, any browser shortcuts you already have made or MAKE, for example dragging the title bar to your desktop to make a shortcut to a webpage, will open in the OLD browser link and therefore open in new tab and open in new window will not work. Hope this helps Oh yea Sure hope they release a fix soon Sunday, June 28, PM. Thank you for that intel Arseny Kravchenko. John - That was pretty much the same thing I asked him in his other thread.

Some may not be playing well with it yet. Select the Advanced tab and click on the Reset button at the bottom of the box. As far as your registration code - you mean the product key that you were given when you downloaded the OS? It will prompt you to enter your product key and walk you through the activation process. John - That was pretty much the same thing I asked him in his other thread on this subject Hi Wolfie Sorry, but that other thread was removed as a reported duplicate. I will add the text from that other thread to your reply here. Do you have any add-ons installed on IE8? I tried your suggestion and still same deal Monday, June 29, PM. BanditoCI5 - Ok.. And have you tried a reset? Uninstalling IE Tuesday, June 30, AM. Bandito - No.. A reset goes as follows: 1.

This will as the name on the button suggests reset IE to it's default state. All plug-ins will be removed, passwords saved will need to be reentered, etc.. But there's also a chance it will fix the problem you're having. No good My GOD this is frustrating, especially since thats the way I browse using "open in new tab" Tuesday, June 30, PM. Bandito - Ack.. That's no good. It will reset the OS to it's default parameters without wiping out your apps and data. The only downside, you'll need to activate again and you'll need to do a Windows update again.

Ok, heres the deal I have also noticed that SOME links when normally clicked do NOT do anything either, I have to right click "copy shortcut" open a new window and paste the link. And here are the results of each file I think I am at the end of my rope as far as things to try to fix this issue And McAfee not allowing them to open.

And there ya have it Wednesday, July 1, AM. I did that and it did not work. I srill do not have IE8. Now what? Monday, July 20, AM. Might there be a way to modify the registry so a downloaded package of IE8 for vista could be installed on windows 7? I am having the exact same problem. Bandito, have you found a resolution yet? Internet Explorer was recently having some strange issues on my Windows 7 machine and instead of spending hours trying to figure out what was causing the problem, I decided I would just reinstall the whole thing!

No matter which version of IE is installed, though, you can uninstall and reinstall IE by simply going to the Control Panel. In the Control Panel, just click on Programs and Features. Just click Yes. Now go ahead and reboot your computer and then come back into the same dialog and re-check Internet Explorer. It will reinstall it and hopefully any issues you were having will be gone. Now scroll down the list to the Microsoft Windows section and there you will find Internet Explorer:.

Click on that and then click the Uninstall button that shows up at the top.
