Reproduction in whole or in part without permission is prohibited. How to Remove Tile Without Breaking. Without it, you have no reference point to start with, and no lines to help guide your installation while you work your way row by row out from your starting point. To lay out a diagonal floor, first find the center of the room, pop two chalk lines bisecting the center, check them with a framing square, then use the same square to pop a bisecting line at a degree angle that cuts through the center mark.
This is your starting point and helps guide the rest of your installation. Because you are starting the installation in the center of the room rather than against a wall, the first row you lay down on that diagonal chalk line will have the tongue part of the tongue-and-groove exposed.
While you can work back from that first row and install the tongue-and-groove pieces normally in one half of the room, when you finish up and need to come back to the center for the other half of the room, use a special reverse transition strip against the exposed tongue to allow you to install the rows in the other direction.
In essence, this transition strip allows you to "flip" the installation over so you can work back from the center in the opposite direction. You have the option of installing the floor in a floating format or nailed down. Either option works; it just depends on personal preference. Please enter your comment! Please enter your name here.
